This is a question that many women and men that use online dating sites, ask themselves. The online dating community is very wide and various, people being under the protection of anonymity. Practically they are whoever they want to be behind that keyboard and screen. The temptation to make yourself a bit more likable or more interesting is huge. Until the moment of the first date and maybe not even then, no one can tell the truth from the lie.
People use free online dating to meet others with the secret hope of finding their perfect soul mate. With such great stakes in the game, even if they pretend to just want an adventure, no one is ready to confront their imperfections; especially not in front their potential partner. This is the main reason why even the most respectable people lie about themselves. Of course, not all the online dating sites users have such noble reasons to lie for, some just want to deceive the others for their own interests.
But is there any need to lie to get a date? The answer may be another question: aren’t we doing this all the time, anyway? Even if we do not have the same freedom in deceiving when we are face to face with someone, we do try to beautify and conceal some unpleasant things about us. You don’t need to expose your darkest secrets from the first date, but we should not manufacture a new life for our partner either.
